The best time to come depends on two main factors: weather and daily demands. Typically the best times to come for berry picking are in the early mornings late into the week and weekend. We will usually have our largest crowds come in late in the week and during the weekend as well. It is not designed this way on purpose, however, with large crowds coming late in the week and weekends, the berries need time to recuperate from the weekend's demands. So as the berries have time to ripen during the beginning of the week, they are ready for picking by late week and the weekend. The temperatures during this time can become very warm in the middle of the day, so if you have trouble in very warm temperatures, try to get here in the morning to beat both the heat and larger crowds! Please do not come before the posted opening time. Our owners and employees need time to get the fields and resources situated for you prior to entering. Remember, we are a working farm and our family lives here. Thank you for respecting our property and our posted business hours.

During our strawberry season you may see alot of birds, frogs, and maybe even a field mice. Remember that this is an open farm field and nature's wild life may make its way into our farm. We do not use any repellants or procedures to remove the wildlife from our fields. Please let the animals and insects be, and if there is a bird's nest or frog, leave it alone and move to another picking place. We do not want to disturb or harm the animal's well-being. During our sunflowers there will be bees around. The sunflowers naturally attract bees, so if you are allergic PLEASE take necessary precautions. Thompson's is not liable for bee stings or insect bites. Our zinnias and wildflowers also attract many butterflies which ties in the beautiful sea of color with nature's beautiful wildlife. During our raspberry season you may see bees as they are the pollinators of the plant. This process must occur in order for us to have berries for you to pick, so if you are allergic PLEASE take necessary precautions. Thompson's is not liable for bee stings or insect bites.

Yes. Port-a-potties are placed throughout the farm for customers to use and they are cleaned regularly.

Sorry, but no pets are allowed on our farm. This is largely in part due to state and federal health and safety codes.

No, appointments are not necessary for entering our farm. Once you arrive we will inform you on all there is to know about what we have to offer. We are happy to welcome guests of all party sizes onto our farm. However, if you are planning on having a larger group, such as a fieldtrip, youth group, or party, please contact us prior to your arrival so we can prepare for your visit!

Head over to our "Photographers" page under "Plan Your Trip". Contact your photographer and have them read the information from our site. They can message us if they have any further questions after visiting our site. We do not block off areas or times for photography sessions, but they are always welcomed. We just ask that you and your photographer tag us in your photos! If you do not have a photographer, but would like to have a session done, we do feature some of our most popular photographer's on our "Photographers" page as well. Extended hours are available for photoshoots such that the photographer and his or her client(s) enter the farm during our business hours. Once you pay your admission you can spend as much time in the fields as you would like to take your picture perfect, golden-hour, photos!

Photographer's are welcomed here at Thompson's! Please head over to our "Photographers" page under "Plan Your Trip" for more detailed information. There is a form you will need to fill out prior to coming to our farm. We allow photographer's to enter our farm at no cost. In return, we ask that they please tag us in their photos. We do monitor the forms that are turned in and check photographers posts and website for this. Extended hours are available for photoshoots such that the photographer and his or her client(s) enter the farm during our business hours. Once you pay your admission you can spend as much time in the fields as you would like to take your picture perfect photos! We provide customer's with containers for strawberries and raspberries. You pay for the berries per basket, not total weight. So if you wish to use your own container we require that you transfer the berries into our container to pay for them. If you bring back your strawberry basket(s) from a previous visit, you will get a $.50 credit per basket that you bring back to pick with. This could be in the same season or in future seasons. For sunflowers, each adult admission fee for sunflowers includes a Thompson souvenir cup that you can fill up with flowers. We will provide this to you after you pay admissions. You are allowed to bring home as many flowers that fit in the souvenir cup. This is our way of limiting the amount of flowers people take home with them. We also have a water station in the field to keep your flowers hydrated for the way home. For pumpkins you will be responsible for gathering and transporting them to your car and then home. You are welcome to bring any wagons, buckets, or wheelbarrows to help transport your pumpkins through the field and into your car.

We always recommend that customers check the weather and conditions before coming to our field because different conditions will require different attire. Useful attire and items to have for picking on our farm may include, rain jacket, waterproof shoes, lightweight clothing, sunscreen, and a hat. Also, remember to bring a camera to capture the amazing memories you will have picking with us at Thompson's! We are a family-friendly farm and therefore, proper attire must be worn at all times including shirts and shoes. We reserve the right to remove any person or ask for an apparel change of any person wearing attire that we consider inappropriate or attire that could detract from the experience of other guests. Any costumes should be in good taste and should never demean others.

If it is lightning we will not allow people to pick their own. In the summer we will remain open during light rain but will close if there is threatening weather or lightning. If in doubt, please call our hotline number prior coming out 262-857-2353 or check our website for updates.

We have a very helpful page on our website that can help you get the most out of your berries. We have care instructions and many recipes for you to try! We also have detailed freezing instructions so you can store them for a later use as well!

If you are picking sunflowers, you will need to bring something to cut your flowers with. We provide souvenir cups to hold your flowers, water will be provided for the flowers in the field! Scissors are available for purchase. We always recommend that customers check the weather and conditions before coming to our field because different conditions will require different attire. Most like to dress up to take lovely photos with the naturally beautiful background that the flowers provide. Also, remember to bring a camera to capture the amazing memories you will have picking with us at Thompson's! All berries are sprayed. Our berries are not organic here on our farm. However, proucts are used throughout the growth of plants, but before berries form; therefore, they are completely safe to taste test! We practice a method called Integrated Pest Management (IPM). IPM is a decision-making process that utilizes all available pest management strategies to prevent economically damaging pest outbreaks. Utilizing this program has allowed us to greatly minimize spray and environmental effects associated with pest management practices and grow safe food. Also, in 2020 we started a program called mating disruption in addition to IPM. This will continue to helped us reduce our spraying even more! SAMPLING: As mentioned above, products are used on the plants, however, these products are used BEFORE berries form. Therefore, it is safe to sample a few! However, please remember this produce is how we stay in business. Purchasing food at a farm is no different here than if you were buying it at a grocery store. Grocery stores do not allow eating all you want before paying. Thank you for your understanding.

The only pre-picked goods that we sell at our farm for purchase are strawberries. These are only available while supplies last. All other activities are pick-your-own.

Yes! The strawberries and raspberries are very easy to pick for all ages. The strawberry plants are low to the ground and easy to look through. Our raspberry plants are taller, but still hang low enough for a child to pick themselves, however, some of our varieties have thorns so make sure they are careful. In our pumpkin patch, they can spend as long as they would like during our business hours searching for the “perfect” pumpkin. In all situations, please be mindful of your child/children's whereabouts and keep them close to you as there can be a lot of traffic and please have respect for the other customers that are picking as well.
